Letter Concerning Student & Staff Safety

8/18/2017

Dear Parents,

It's been a good week!  Of course with the beginning of any new year, there have been some challenges, but nothing that the Lord has not given us the ability to overcome.  We are so grateful to Him for being the ultimate Problem Solver.  Proverbs 3:5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight."

I do want to address something that we need your help with.  These are our safety guidelines listed in our handbook.

Safety Tips and Guidelines
  1. Students should stay buckled up until the vehicle has stopped in the drop-off and pick-up area.
  2. They should be ready to get out of the vehicle with their belongings when the vehicle has stopped and they have unbuckled their seatbelt.  Students should always get in and out of the backseat of the vehicle through the side door closest to the sidewalk.  If a teacher has no option but to go to the passenger side of the vehicle to load or unload a student, they will go in front of the vehicle for safety reasons.
  3. In order to keep traffic moving when dropping students off in the morning, please have them completely ready to get out of the vehicle before pulling under the canopy.

Last year, we had a car bump into the car in front of them.  Although no one was hurt, it really made us think about the safety of our students and teachers.  Had someone been in front of that car, it would have been a terrible tragedy.  With that being said, we would like to ask that you please have your children sit in the back seat closest to the sidewalk.  We realize that this isn't possible in certain situations like vans that only open on one side, single cab trucks, or even if there are car seats for siblings that need to be directly behind the driver.  However, some students are sitting in the front simply because they want to.  I realize this might be a slight inconvenience, but it is nothing compared to keeping our students and staff safe.

Thank you for helping us with making sure everyone is safe at FBCA. We will expect that if a student is in the front seat, it's because there isn't an alternative in the back seat.  This will also help to speed up the drop off and pick up process.

May your weekend be one that is filled with much needed rest and family time.  We will see you on Monday, Lord willing!

Love in Christ,
Shanna Eggleston and the FBCA Staff
